You asked for flowers....
05.13.06 (12:08 pm)   [edit]

I can't take credit for growing these flowers:

Part of the flower display at my local agricultural & pastoral Show.

I took that photograph yesterday at my local agricultural & pastoral Show.

Gladiolis - Dame Edna Everage's favourite flowers!

Aren't gladiolis gorgeous?  Dame Edna Everage likes them, too!  My father used to grow them, on our farm in south east Queensland.

Look at this magnificent specimen:

A magnificent healthy green plant

Here's a closeup:

A pictorial definition of the phrase "laidback":

A laidback pup at the animal nursery.

(taken at the Show's Animal Nursery yesterday)

Last night I was at an art exhibition launch of artworks by the late Pro Hart & his son, David Hart:

Part of the Pro Hart exhibition last night

Pro Hart was quite a character, so casual & confident with his painting, with a good sense of colour.

Art exhibition launch, works by Pro Hart & David Hart

On some of David Hart's paintings, the paint was so thick I wanted to touch it.

It's such a busy time of the year here now, probably because it's also the best weather, ie not too hot!

Beautiful Glads. Our MG organization had it's annual flower sale two weeks ago. I went crazy and bought about 20 native species. I still have about 7 in pots needing to be planted.
I love house plants because you can enjoy them in winter. It's been raining a lot in the afternoons when I get in from work, so I hope we get some good weather soon. It has been what the older folks around her call: Blackberry Winter.

When did you start doing your art work? I love art...always have. I only got to do about a year of it in college...before life happened and I didn't get to go back.

Thank-you for reading & commenting, toztee. I drew a lot as a child, painted a little as a teenager, did quite a bit of painting last year, & have my next exhibition next March.
Did you visit my online art gallery? Just in case you didn't, it's in my links list, to the left of the page.

I had to look that term "Blackberry Winter" up:
"A (mainly Southern) term used to describe a brief period of cold weather that coincides with the time the blackberries are in bloom, (typically in early to mid May"
We can enjoy plants outside year round here, it doesn't snow, & it's even rare to have a frost, here.

Perhaps I should have taken another closeup of another kind of flower, perhaps the spectacular gerbera, instead of that top photo.
