A broken heart - again
05.01.08 (1:56 pm)   [edit]

"Smile"

Smile, though your heart is aching

Smile, even though it's breaking

When there are clouds in the sky

You'll get by...

If you smile

With your fear and sorrow

Smile and maybe tomorrow

You'll find that life is still worthwhile

If you just...

Light up your face with gladness

Hide every trace of sadness

Although a tear may be ever so near

That's the time you must keep on trying

Smile, what's the use of crying

You'll find that life is still worthwhile

If you just...

See and hear this song here.

I met a man.  I liked him.  He liked me.  We had lunch.  We had dinner.  These were my first dates (with someone other than my ex husband) in twenty years!  We shared my first kiss (with someone else, in 20 years).  He visited me in my home.  I visited him in his.  He cooked me dinner.  I like a lot of things about him.  He said "You're irresistable!"!

Unfortunately, he is not over one of his ex girlfriends.  He hadn't gotten over the hurt.  I thought that he would get over it, but now, after our last telephone conversation on Tuesday night, I suspect that they'll get back together within a month or so - so now I'm not contacting him anymore.

I was crying in the loungeroom after we last talked on the 'phone, & my teenage son heard me & came out & asked me why I was so sad.  I had thought he was asleep.  I hadn't told him anything at all about the new "boyfriend".  He thought someone must have died!

I had shared some of the happy information with my teenage daughter prior to this, but the morning after my sob session she told me "I think you're pathetic!&quo t;  - so glad she hasn't become a counsellor!  hehe

It's hard not to dwell on "what might have been".  Who else, nearby where I live, is going to fancy a fat woman in her 40s - who will also have all of his qualities?!

I think I'm going to have to hang out in the local shopping centre around 4pm (saw heaps of possibilites around that time the other day there); & perhaps hardware stores on a Sunday morning!

Wish me luck!  :-)

Advice for newly separated Australian mothers
04.02.08 (9:04 pm)   [edit]

I don't know how many Australian readers I have, probably not many, but just in case:  if you've just recently separated, have any children under 18, & their father isn't paying any child support, then immediately contact the Child Support Agency to organise child support through them!

It'll take about an hour over the 'phone:  131 272.  You'll need to provide your tax file number, Centrelink Reference Number (if you have one), your taxable income for the last financial year (& his), full contact details for both of you, names & dates of birth for the children, & tell them how many nights your children will be staying with him for the next 12 months (I know, you're expected to foresee this), etc etc - however before you commit to giving them a number of nights, find out what the tiers are, eg after 1st July 2008:  0-51 nights is called Nil; 52-127 nights=regular; 176-189=shared; 190-237=shared(?); 238-313=primary; 314-365=sole care (or so I was told after probing today).  Obviously nil or regular will result in more child support for you, than higher tiers, at least in theory.

I didn't entirely panic when my husband, through his solicitor (lawyer) refused to pay child support & spousal maintenance, because I was under the impression that the CSA would pay 'back pay' - but when I finally contacted the CSA today I discovered that they don't!  I have missed out on perhaps several thousand dollars because I was not aware of this!  That's money I need to put food on the table.  :-(

Please benefit from my experience.
