Vacation Pictures (Holiday Photographs)
01.28.07 (6:45 pm)   [edit]

I thought you might like to see pictures of some of the places I mentioned in my vacation report?

This is looking towards the very popular Mooloolaba beach, taken from the Alexandra Headlands direction:

These are some of the interesting rock formations in the Alexandra Headlands area:

Alexandra Headland is between Mooloolaba and Maroochydore.

This is where we stayed:  Raffles, at Mooloolaba, close to the esplanade.

Sunshine Coast vacation!
01.24.07 (3:27 pm)   [edit]

I've lightened up & circled both frogmouths so that, hopefully, you can all see them now?

Frogmouth looking at me!

Red eyed frogmouth pretending to be part of a tree!

I was away for a few days, on the Sunshine Coast of Queensland, Australia, staying at Raffles Mooloolaba.  It was good to see an original pastel painting on the wall, & granite benchtops & Smeg stainless steel appliances in the kitchen.  There was a two person spa in the ensuite, free satellite television, air conditioning of course, & a swimming pool outside our front door.  It's 4 1/2 stars, & cost $200 a night.

We had dinner with friends at the Siam Thai Restaurant on the River Esplanade.  Another day we breakfasted at The Coffee Club, on the Mooloolaba Esplanade, across the road from the Loo with a View.  The doughnut flavoured gelati from Gelatissimo, Mooloolaba was a delicious dessert on our last night, after Montezumas Mexican takeaway.

When on Queensland's Sunshine Coast, go to the Eumundi Markets, but arrive early in the morning if it's summer, to avoid the very hot sunshine!  The first time I went to Eumundi Markets, which is on Wednesdays & Saturdays, it took five hours to see everything! Last Saturday we enjoyed the buskers, Oka, so we bought one of their cds.

We drove around the University of the Sunshine Coast campus at Sippy Downs, which is rather new & attractive looking.  I figure it's smaller, possibly friendlier & safer, & closer to our home than the University of Queensland - plus there are great residential colleges in which student residents have their own bathrooms.

We went to the cinema at Sunshine Plaza, Maroochydore, & saw Deja Vu, starring Denzel Washington as the good guy & Jim Caviezel as a good-looking mad bad guy.  Denzel's in good shape for an older man!  He'll be 53 in December, but he looks 10 years younger to me!  I like thought provoking, almost believable, futuristic/science fiction type movies, like this one.

Denzel Washington, taken from a Deja Vu movie still

That's my idea of a holiday (vacation), staying in luxurious surroundings, dining out, going to movies, a great abundance & variety of shops (stores) with extended trading hours, & being with family and friends.  The only thing I missed out on was lots of sleep.

Oh, if you're wondering about the strange place names:  they're Aboriginal.

Camouflaged Frogmouths!
01.16.07 (2:25 pm)   [edit]

Well, I did tell you that frogmouths are good at camouflaging themselves!  hehe

For those of you who couldn't see the second frogmouth yesterday, here it is:

Camouflaged frogmouth - can you see it now?!

Can you see it now?

Two Frogmouths!
01.15.07 (8:13 pm)   [edit]

My son spotted two frogmouths in our back garden this afternoon:

 A frogmouth looking at me!

They're good at camouflage:

A frogmouth with red eyes!

They're not owls, by the way, & their call is like "an owl on speed", my daughter complained.

What's Your Funky Inner Hair Colour?
01.13.07 (4:07 pm)   [edit]

Your Hair Should Be Red
Passionate, fiery, and sassy.
You're a total smart aleck who's got the biggest personality around.

Hmmmm well my hair is dark auburn...& if the above is true, I hide it pretty well most of the time while out.  :-)

Portrait Commission!
01.11.07 (3:53 pm)   [edit]

This is my recently completed pastel portrait commission of a little girl who died decades ago (just telling you that in case you think the portrait looks somewhat 'dated'):

An animation of a commissioned portrait, showing the work in progress, and finally the completed portrait.

Who Should Paint Your Portrait?
01.03.07 (11:55 am)   [edit]

Who Should Paint You: Salvador Dali
You're a complex, intense creature who displays many layers.
There's no way a traditional portrait could ever capture you!

When our local art group get together again later in the new year, I believe we're going to start with self portraits, so that should be interesting.
