So much for friends :-(
11.29.05 (8:58 pm) [edit]
Well, guess what?

Tonight was the annual fragrance party put on by our local pharmacy. I went last year, spent lots of $$'s, it was quite a glamorous occasion, live orchestra, dancers, fashion parade, delicious hot nibblies, tasteful decorations, prizes, etc.
This year, I didn't receive an invitation! I could have gone & bought a ticket, but was quite miffed not to receive an official invitation, rather insulted actually - not only that I wasn't respected as a vip, but also because, for goodness sake, don't they keep records to see who spent a lot of money last year?!

I just found out that at least four of my friends were there, & not one of them asked me if I was going! I've seen all of these ladies two days ago, & some of them twice in the last week!

I'm feeling out of the loop.

On another sad note, I emailed my new online art gallery to lots of family & friends, & I've only received two comments! About 25 visitors to the web page so far, but only two comments. :-(

Let's hope things pick up for my art exhibition, which starts on the 1st - I've invited heaps of people to go see it, & it's on for a whole month.
The pictures are tears, by the way, made by yours truly - like 'em?!

'Lunatic' activity during the Full Moon?
11.23.05 (8:54 pm) [edit]
lu·na·tic ( P ) Pronunciation Key (l n -t k) adj.
- Suffering from lunacy; insane.
- Of or for the insane.
- Wildly or giddily foolish: a lunatic decision.
- Characterized by lunacy or eccentricity.
(see more at: )www.dictionary.com
I was talking with a nurse & teacher aide tonight about the effects of the full moon on both her elderly patients, and on highschool students.
In her experience, a couple of nights/days a month during the full moon some patients wandered more than usual, and some otherwise normal patients were 'off with the fairies'.

She works where those who've misbehaved in class go. Suspecting that the full moon influenced the number of students sent to the RTC, & the severity of their behaviour, she checked the statistics, & sure enough, she was right!
See here for best fishing & hunting days (influenced by the moon).

What have you noticed during the full moon?

More about "churchianity" & "religiousness"
11.20.05 (8:02 pm) [edit]
And another thing:
I don't think Christians are necessarily any better than any other person of any other faith. It's an individual thing, not a religious one, regarding how "good" a person is: how kind, how compassionate, how helpful, how trustworthy, how decent, how honest, how friendly, how generous, etc etc - this isn't decided by which place of worship a person attends or doesn't attend.
And by the way (referring back to my previous blog about Christians):
If a person states on the census that they are a Christian, how dare we suggest otherwise? What right have we to judge?
Changing the subject a little:
Tonight on (Australian) tv I saw an Islamic leader 'preaching' that Muslims cannot be friends with non-Muslims, only associates!
I feel integration is the key to harmony in a multi-cultural society - & this guy is trying to prevent that!
Speaking of integration:

Tornado/land spout?
11.14.05 (3:38 pm) [edit]
Driving near Dululu, central Queensland, Australia on Saturday at about 3pm, I saw what looked like the strangest cloud I've ever seen.

It may have been a 'land spout', which is like a tornado but more common. Of course, tornadoes are rare in Australia, compared to the US, so this was very exciting for me!

Later edit: I've since learnt that this is called a funnel, because it didn't reach the ground.

New painting!
11.10.05 (12:00 pm) [edit]
Today I finished (?) a new abstract painting, tentatively titled "Blokes":

Here is a detail:

Also, I've vastly improved my slideshow, over on the right above the BlogFaces. I've added this new painting, & all the paintings are now shown much larger. Remember to click on a painting to view the next one!

Why romance is important!
11.08.05 (7:03 pm) [edit]
According to: "Mind may effect Machines" from Wired News:
"...Gender matters as well. Men tend to get results that match their intent, although the degree of the effect is often small. Women tend to get a bigger effect, but not necessarily the one they intend. For example, they might intend to direct balls in the random cascade machine to fall to the left, but they fall to the right instead.
Results are also greater if a male and female work together, but same-sex pairs produce no significant results. Pairs of the opposite sex who are romantically involved produce the best results -- often seven times greater than when the same individuals are tested alone.

Brenda Dunne, a developmental psychologist and the lab's manager, said the results in such cases often reflect the two gender styles. The effects are bigger, in keeping with what the female alone would tend to produce, but more on target, in keeping with what the male alone would produce..."
Long live love! Vive la difference! Ain't love grand?!

Baby Oriole?
11.06.05 (2:25 pm) [edit]
Here's a cute little baby bird we found in our next door neighbour's yard this morning. The neighbour thinks he's a baby oriole, or a fig bird.
Here he is from the front:
In profile:
He has the cutest stance:
You can see an adult oriole & nest here.
